SIX Asia

SIX and the Jockey Club Make a Difference School in Hong Kong are launching SIX Asia to develop a tighter regional network to support innovators in Asia.

Networks for learning, sharing and collaborating can play an important role in developing a mature ecosystem for social innovation to be effective. All over the world, regional clusters of social innovation activity are developing, and East and Southeast Asia is one of the leading regions in the world. Across the region, there are many social innovation organisations, from governments like Seoul City, South Korea, to schools like the School of Creativity and Make a Difference (MaD) platform in Hong Kong. Some are already connected to the global SIX community.

In order to maximise the learning, sharing of ideas, and practices across the region, and to better connect Asian social
innovators to others around the world, SIX would like to work with local partners to create ‘SIX Asia’ – a network and hub for
social innovation networking in the region.

Launching SIX Asia

Monday 11th June, 2012 the SIX Asia partners are invited participants from across the region to join SIX Global Chairman, Geoff MULGAN, SIX Patron Won Soon PARK, Mayor of Seoul, and host of the first year of SIX Asia, Ada Wong of Hong Kong Institute of Contemporary Culture (HKICC) and MaD School, to come together to hear from global leaders in social innovation, learn about some of the most exciting social innovations across Asia, and, most importantly, shape the regional network. You can find more information about the launch at the Launching SIX Asia webpage.

Jockey Club Make a Difference School

In response to the many challenges of our time, we need people who are:

• More resilient, not afraid of complexities and ready to take risks
• Willing to embrace diversity and plurality
• Able to cross boundaries and synthesize knowledge
• Possess an innovative mindset and versatile capabilities for socially beneficial actions

Education is instrumental to the cultivation of such people. While the above qualities are not emphasized in formal education, the Jockey Club Make a Difference School aims to fill the gap. The MaD School provides a “MaD” kind of education – cross-disciplinary, innovative, socially conscious and action-oriented – on a regular basis. Through programmes on creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship presented with global partners, the School is a platform for exchange of cutting-edge ideas and a reflective learning community exploring the mindset, values and methodologies conducive to positive change.
