Summer School on Social Innovation

  • From San Sebastian to Lisbon

    July 2008 – July 2009

As you will all be aware, the last year has seen a fast growth in the field of social innovation around the globe. Here on the SIX website you can see the wide variety of information from around the world.

    1. Obama and Barosso support social innovation
    2. BIB are setting up a new Social Innovation Business Park in Spain
    3. New Zealand opens a Centre for Social Innovation and launches their INNOVATING THROUGH RECESSION event series

Some of the projects discussed during the Summer School 2008 are being replicated in other countries (New Zealand and Scotland have both recently launched their own social innovation camps); the SIX community is larger and more actively engaged; there have been SIX events in many countries - from China and Korea to the US and Europe.

With the recent global recession creating fertile ground for grassroots action and creative experimentation, and an emerging new dynamic between central and local government, the third sector and business, this year’s summer school provides the perfect opportunity to explore how social innovation can provide a new framework for linking the global dynamics of recession to action on the ground?
