The Summer School is a SIX – Social Innovation Exchange event.
SIX is a global network of networks to promote social innovation and facilitate the exchange of ideas, knowledge and best practice. The broader aim is to build the still underdeveloped field of social innovation – with more effective methods and faster learning. The Young Foundation is a centre for social innovation based in East London. Its main goals are to identify and develop new and better ways of meeting pressing social needs. The Foundation has a long history of practical action under Michael Young who pioneered ideas of public and consumer empowerment both in private markets and in public services, and created dozens of new organisations. The Young Foundation’s work falls into five main areas: Launchpad which creates new enterprises in health and education; research and action research, local projects, international work and running a hub for social enterprises. MIK/ Mondragon group
MIK is the management research centre of Mondragon Corporation (MCC), which is the 7th biggest corporation in Spain. MCC is well known as the largest industrial co-operative experience in the world, constituting a phenomenon which has attracted an important bulk of research given its special characteristics. It currently consists of more than 150 enterprises and it is the world leader in worker participation. MIK has been established as a Centre of Excellence for the group. MIK contributes to the competitiveness of firms by developing sound research and test projects about advanced management theories, techniques and new organisational forms.
Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation
The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation is a Portuguese private institution of public utility, located in Lisbon, which was created by its founder’s will, Calouste Sakis Gulbenkian. The Foundation develops a wide range of activities in Portugal and abroad, namely African Portuguese Speaking Countries and East Timor, within the framework of its statutory aims: Arts, Health and Human Development, Science and Education. The Gulbenkian Foundation has an orchestra and a choir, two museums, a science research institute, a delegation is London – the UK Branch and the Calouste Gulbenkian Cultural Centre, in Paris. Facing the XXI century challenges tha Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation aims to find innovative solutions to the major social issues.
