Wanted please! Examples of social innovations in health from the developing world

I am speaking at the 2008 Global Ministerial Forum on Research for Health (http://www.globalforumhealth.org/) health Bamako Mali on November 17 on social innovations in health. I would very much like to know of examples of social innovations in health in the developing world. How were the project or projects begun; how were they funded; what do they do; how effective are they (have they been evaluated?); how long they have been in operation; are they sustainable and scalable - what lessons have been learned along the way? The aim is to allow others to learn and spread ideas. I'd also like to hear about social innovations that have failed - and whether there has been any analysis of how and why. Also if anyone has any good ideas that have yet to be turned into viable projects please let me know - there may be a social entrepreneur or invester available in Mali or the UK!
