The New Orleans Citizen Participation Project is a citizen driven campaign to develop a system of direct involvement of the city’s residents in public-decision making in all issues that impact on quality of life.

The organisation works in partnership with a number of non-profits, neighbourhood groups and community organisations across New Orleans.

Formal Citizen Participation Programs have been in existence in some form for over 30 years. The aim is to give citizens a greater say in government decision-making whilst giving local officials a means of communicating with residents and receive feedback.

On July11-12 2008 NOLACPP held their first ‘Citizen Participation Summit’. This event brought together a diverse group of people from New Orleans to begin the process of developing a formal citizen driven CPP.

This project is contained in the 'New Orleans 100' list of innovative projects for New Orleans
