Our tribute to Steve Lawrence
Today is another sad day for the SIX community. This morning Steve Lawrence, Chief Executive of Australian Social Innovation eXchange (ASIX), passed away. Steve was called the ‘grandfather of social enterprise in Australia’. He has been advocating social innovation for a number of years in Australia, but his influence reached further than this and can also be seen globally.
There have been lots of nice words and contributes from the people that held him dear. At SIX we have always appreciated his support in our work and we will always remember Steve for his passionate contribution to the social innovation field. There are lots of things we will remember him by, but particularly spreading the word and sharing his experiences on SI Camps will be part of his legacy. Our most recent memory of Steve was the SI Camp TelePresence he ran with SIX about a month ago. He led this session with rigour and passion, despite being so ill. Steve ran the first SI Camp in Australia and he was keen that what he learnt could help and benefit as many people as possible around the world. Although we were already inspired by his involvement and work with this, we are even more excited about continuing this work now.
He will be dearly missed.
