As a first step in the implementation of a strategy to support the organisational sustainability of Private Institutions for Social Welfare (Instituições Particulares de Solidariedade Social) in Portugal, the União Distrital das Instituições Particulares de Solidariedade Social do Porto (UDIPSS-PORTO), launched the first National Congress on Social Innovation in 2009. This initiative has since promoted the creation or reinvention of social programmes that are able to solve social problems and satisfy social needs; in sum, delivering more efficient, effective, sustainable and scalable social programmes. Following from previous years' successes the Congress is organised again in Porto on the 19- 20 June 2012.

The Congress is a two-day event aimed at accelerating social innovation, inspirating innovators and enabling participants to take part in discussion groups working to find innovative solutions to new and old social problems through collaboration between European and worldwide peers.

The ultimate goal of this event is to accelerate social innovation by improving our methods and building capabilities in civil society agents so they may be able to find better and more efficient solutions to the challenges of the future (ageing, poverty, dependency on or lack of healthcare).

This is a unique opportunity for European civil society organisations to come together for an effective paradigm shift and to build a better Europe and a better world! For more information and to register go to the Unpacking the Future website.
